OroBlade Ltd. was born to serve the special needs of the entertainment industry, where the real and the imagined worlds collide. OroBlade is a 3D data capture company, headquartered in Budapest - Hungary, nonetheless available globally. We’re engineers experienced in various land surveying techniques and specialized photogrammetry technologies. For the past four years, we’ve worked as spatial scanning specialists on various engineering and art projects. Working in fast-paced environments with architects, forensic experts and entertainment industry professionals granted us a deeper knowledge to consistently deliver quality work. Our main profile is utilizing ground-based LIDAR and close-range photogrammetry to develop detailed 3D digital representations of the real world for the Visual Effects community. Since these survey grade datasets allow us to document, design and validate different aspects of the industry pipeline, other departments could also gain valuable information based on our work. We are pleased to offer efficient and well-tested solutions for many of the challenges found in the entertainment industry.

Technical introduction

We offer our services at a cost-effective rate, which will assist on-set supervision and post-production tasks such as: digital set extension, motion tracking and modelling. Upon request, we also provide consultation to optimize workflow and methodology in handling the scanned data. By default, we comply with industry standard solutions, but also happy to develop custom solutions when needed.

LIDAR – terrestrial laser scanner

We offer a range of survey options for capturing props, sets/scenes (live or offline) and external locations. These survey datasets could help the work of several departments found in the industry pipeline (e.g. VFX, SFX, Art department). LIDAR operates as an active remote sensor; lighting conditions are indifferent for recording spatial data. It provides an accurate base geometry with intensity value based colouring which is optimal for documentation, planning and special VFX tasks such as: camera tracking, match moving. The survey can be augmented with RGB, HDRI spherical images to add an extra visual layer. With the combination of LIDAR, Total Station, GNSS receiver and UAV photogrammetry, the most demanding and complex surveying tasks could be successfully achieved.

3D structured light scanning & Photogrammetry

We deploy structured light scanning (Artec EVA) and close-range photogrammetry to digitally capture a person or object to create a 3D CG model. The scanner’s capability to record the surface geometry can be characterized with the following properties: 3D resolution is at 0.5mm and the 3D point accuracy is at 0.1mm.

A scanning session usually consists of several passes to fully map the surface. An average scan should be done in several minutes. The scanner provides a base unstructured mesh and model texture, which can be further augmented from an external source (i.e.: from a high resolution DSLR camera).

Data processing

We offer the option to either deliver raw or processed data. The raw data contains pure survey information, which is ideal for documentation purposes. The processed data is ready to be worked with, usually means a registered point cloud or meshed polygon data. The file format of the deliverable is always selected per project.

Point Cloud/ Vertices

The simplest form of survey information we usually provide. It contains hundreds of millions of individual 3D survey points recorded by the scanner. The survey data can be optimized to meet specific requirements/restrictions that various post-processing software suits have. We can provide vendor specific formats, simple text files or the standard formats used in the laser scanning industry.


Meshed surfaces are generated from survey vertices. General filtering and mending algorithms can be applied to take care of artefacts, improving overall quality. To meet specific vendor requirements, we can deliver the survey data sectioned, in multi-resolution divisions. Meshes are usually delivered as .obj files although other formats can be provided.

Textured Mesh

Combination of LIDAR, SLS and close-range photogrammetry provides reliable survey information with stunning visuals. Photogrammetry is highly dependent on lighting conditions and various object characteristics, thus incorporating external sources of survey information could bring us the desired result. Photo textured meshes have the same topological features as the meshes described above with the addition of a high resolution, scene-referred linear photo texture maps.
